copy of img_0661.jpgThe Sign of the Takahe was completed in 1919. One of four roadhouses built on the famed Summit Road (a road built on the crests of the Port Hills, affording views of Christchurch and Lyttelton), it was constructed using stone quarried locally from the Port Hills. Most of the stonework was laboriously hand shaped using relatively primitive tools.

The design of the building is faithful to similar English buildings and indeed the grand fireplaceis an exact replica of the fireplace in historic Haddon Hall in Derbyshire.

In addition to panoramic views of Christchurch and sign of takahe 01.jpgmagnificent English style lawns and gardens, The Sign of the Takahe also features superb dining facilities and boasts an award winning restaurant.

The beautiful gardens are available for outdoor weddings, indoor facilities are also available. Receptions or dining are available after the event.
